Create a vocation-friendly environment where parishioners are encouraged to ask God what His will in their lives.

"Only 10-20% of parishes promote vocations, but that most seminarians come from the parishes that do encourage vocations. We had to do something."

The need it meets

The apostolate, Vocation Ministry, helps the parish place an emphasis on vocations, helping more men and women say "YES" to God's call in their lives.

Where it came from

Vocations Ministry gave a workshop to the priests in our annual convocation and then to parishioners in a diocesan-wide workshop. Rhonda Gruenewald, the founder of this nonprofit, inspired and taught us how to promote vocations in all our parishes while keeping our efforts prayerful.

How it works

Vocation Ministry is a lay-led ministry, using Hundredfold: A Guide to Parish Vocation Ministry. The guide and other resources can be found at www.vocationministry.com. The resources help to create a vocation-friendly environment where parishioners are encouraged to ask God what His will in their lives.

The sixty-seven (67) activities in the book are organized in phases and have step-by-step instructions so that it is easy to implement.

The results

Increased awareness of the need for vocations in our parish and the call we all have to promote and encourage vocations.

Key elements

First, acknowledge the importance of vocation promotion and how important it is to the universal church, the diocese, and the parish. Make the ministry a priority. Only 10-20% of parishes promote vocations, but that most seminarians come from the parishes that do encourage vocations. We had to do something.

The first phase of implementation is accomplished with a ministry/committee of only 1-3 members and no budget. The ministry places an emphasis on asking everyone to pray for vocations in the parish in a variety of ways, bringing awareness and education, especially to the youth, and affirming those who have already said YES to their vocation.

How to implement it

Once you have a few people who want to see the Church thriving in the future, have them watch the workshop together online at www.vocationministry.com. The core group will receive a set of books and other resources. The resources offer a turn-key ministry with instructions and downloadable materials from Vocation Ministry.
