LA SAGRADA FAMILIA
Entre la Navidad y el Año Nuevo, hacemos un lugar especial a Jesús, José y María, prototipo de familia cristiana. Han pasado 2000 años y todavía la vida de la Sagrada Familia es un ejemplo que nos sirve para imitarlos y lograr ser felices. Ellos eran tres personas pero, en el amor, eran todo uno. Ese es el secreto que le hace a una familia salir de sí misma y triunfar: el amor.
Hermanas y hermanos:
1. Jesús, José y María eran tres pero, desde el amor, formaban una sola realidad. Esa es la grandeza del Misterio de Belén. El amor es capaz de fusionarlo todo. Eran tres pero, por amor, supieron dar cabida a una mano misteriosa que guió desde el principio hasta el fin, las aventuras y desventuras, los gozos, idas y venidas de esta familia. La Sagrada Familia es un canto a la sencillez y la confianza en el otro. José se fió de María; María confió en José y Jesús se fió y confió en los dos.
2. La Sagrada Familia, tiene mucho que decir a nuestra sociedad y a nuestro mundo. No estamos acostumbrados a resolver las actividades del hogar en el amor. Muchas parejas que decidieron unirse para siempre se quedaron a mitad de camino. Por aquí o por allá asoman la cabeza amenazas que ponen en peligro la estabilidad familiar: Son los intereses y los individualismos, los caprichos y el deseo de conocer "algo más", el afán de tener o la impaciencia, la falta de amplitud de miras o el salvaguardar la fidelidad.
3. La Sagrada Familia es un ejemplo que nos anima a progresar en la unidad familiar. Son muchos los matrimonios que permanecen fieles. Es verdad que la familia feliz "no vende" primeras páginas en los periódicos, televisión, revistas del corazón o radio. Esto no es nuevo. Tampoco la Sagrada Familia interesó en su momento. Hoy los vemos como un ejemplo de cómo hay que enfrentarse a las dificultades, a las soledades, a las pruebas, a los sufrimientos. Quizás lo que más impresiona de esta "original familia" es que se dejaron guiar al cien por cien por Dios.
Debemos valorar el lugar insustituible que tiene la familia cristiana en la transmisión de la fe. La asignatura pendiente en nuestros ambientes católicos es el despertar en nuestras familias el gusto, el apetito, el orgullo por las cosas de Dios. Con razón, alguien ha dicho, que o la familia interviene en el futuro de la fe, o será difícil que las generaciones del mañana conozcan a ese Jesús que nació en Belén y que tantas pasiones, música, escritos, arte y poemas ha inspirado y que en su nombre han salido a la luz. Que al ver a la Santa Familia de Belén, surja en nuestros hogares el ideal de la familia unida. El Papa Juan Pablo II repetía muchas veces: "Familia que reza unida, permanece unida". Pidamos al niño Jesús que así sea.

THE HOLY FAMILY
Between Christmas and New Year's there is a special space for Jesus, Mary and Joseph, the ideal Christian family. After more than 2000 years, the life of the Holy Family is still an example for us to imitate in order to be happy. They were three separate people, but in love they were one. That is the secret ingredient that makes a family go outside of themselves and triumph: love.
Sisters and brothers,
1. Jesus, Mary and Joseph were three, but on the level of love they were one. That is the greatness of the Mystery of Bethlehem. Love can bring it all together. They were three, but love enabled them to make space for the mysterious hand that guided their family from beginning to end, in fortune and misfortune, in all their joys, comings and goings. The Holy Family is a hymn to simplicity and trust in others. Joseph trusted Mary, Mary trusted Joseph and Jesus trusted them both.
2. Our society and our world has a lot to learn from the Holy Family. We don't usually resolve the activities of our home in love. Many couples that decided to be forever one end up stopping half way. Here and there threats against family stability start popping up: personal interests, whims and the desire to experience "something else," the urge to possess, or else the lack of patience, comprehension or fidelity.
3. The Holy Family encourages us to progress in family unity. So many couples are faithful to each other. It is true that a happy family "doesn't sell" on the front page in newspapers, TV, tabloid magazines or radio. That is nothing new. It didn't really matter to the Holy Family either. Today we see in them an example of how to confront difficulties, loneliness, challenges and suffering. Maybe the most amazing thing about this "first family" is that they were completely guided by God.
We should value the irreplaceable rôle of the Christian family in the transmission of the Faith. In our Catholic families we still need to enkindle the appreciation, desire and pride for the things of God. How true was that person who said that if the family does not intervene in the future of the Faith, it will be difficult for future generations to know the Jesus born in Bethlehem, who has inspired so much passion, music, writing, art, poetry that were produced in his name. May the contemplation of the Holy Family in Bethlehem raise up in our homes the ideal of a united family. Pope John Paul II used to say many times: "The family that prays together, stays together." Let us ask the Christ Child for this grace.
