            En la curación del paralítico llama la atención que el Señor piensa primero en sanar su alma. Este hombre sufre también en el cuerpo, no se vale por sí mismo; y es en medio de su dolor que muestra una gran fe en el poder de Jesús, poniendo todos los medios para acercarse a Él. Por un lado los letrados tenían razón cuando afirmaron que sólo Dios puede perdonar los pecados, y por otro lado el enfermo tiene la fe suficiente para confesar que sólo Dios puede hacer andar a un paralítico.

            Hermanas y hermanos:

1.- El evangelio nos habla de un buen hombre a quien Jesús le perdona sus pecados, lo cura de su parálisis  y le ordena caminar. Con este buen hombre podríamos identificarnos todos. ¿No es verdad que todos somos espiritualmente un poco paralíticos? Hablamos mucho de que los jóvenes pierden la fe y de que los mayores no la viven. Criticamos a la Iglesia y al Estado, pero, ¿Qué hacemos nosotros? ¿Hacemos algo además de lamentarnos? Muy a menudo buscamos excusas en las circunstancias o en los demás pero casi nada hacemos para cambiar. ¡En nuestra vida personal, somos muchas veces como paralíticos!

2.- ¿Podemos creer en la autoridad moral de Jesús? ¿En dónde está su secreto? El poder de Jesús se manifiesta en su modo de enseñar, en los milagros que realiza y en el perdón de los pecados. Jesús perdona los pecados al paralítico y esta acción interior se hace visible en su curación. Dice San Beda el Venerable que "La curación de este paralítico representa la salvación del alma que quiere llegar hasta Cristo pero la paralizan el ocio y los placeres de la carne. Necesita la ayuda de todos. Buenos médicos que despierten la esperanza de su curación e intercedan por ella".

3.- Para que el pecado sea perdonado se requiere una condición: Tener fe. Creer que es posible sacarse de encima el pecado y caminar. Porque el pecado es un peso que inmoviliza. El mundo necesita hombres y mujeres con fe. Gente que crea que vale la pena creer, trabajar, caminar.

En un mundo como el nuestro, secularizado y permisivo, no podemos dejar de anunciar el perdón de los pecados. Perdonar es acoger, salvar, restablecer, curar. Necesitamos reconciliarnos con Dios. Y alegrarnos por el perdón. El perdón de Dios y el perdón de los hermanos, porque nos han perdonado o porque los hemos perdonado.

            Hermana, hermano: Sólo Dios puede perdonar los pecados. Si has estado paralítico del alma por mucho tiempo, ten fe y acércate a Cristo en la confesión. Él te espera con los brazos abiertos para decirte: "Hijo, tus pecados están perdonados". Sólo quien ha hecho esta experiencia sabe que después de una buena confesión se esfuman como por encanto tantos otros problemas. Es porque a través de este sacramento se repite el milagro de aquel día: "Levántate, toma tu camilla y vete a  tu casa".

In the healing of the paralytic what calls the attention is that the Lord first wants to heal the soul.  This man suffers in his body as well, he is not able to carry on on his own; and it is precisely in the midst of his great pain that he shows greater faith in Jesus' power, enough to give it all that he's got to get closer to Jesus.  On the one hand the wise were right to affirm that only God can pardon sin... on the other hand, the sick man has enough faith to confess that only God can make a paralyzed walk.

Sisters and Brothers:

1. The Gospel teaches us about a good man whose sins Jesus forgives, cures his paralysis and orders him to walk! We can all identify with this man. Is it not true that spiritually we are a little bit of a paralytic ourselves? We speak a lot about young people losing their faith and that the older ones don't live by it. We criticize the Church and the State, but, What do we do? Do we do anything else besides lamenting? Very often we look for excuses in circumstances or in others, but in the end, we can't really change much. In our personal life, we are very often paralyzed!

2. Can we believe in the moral authority of Jesus? Where is his secret? The power of Jesus can be seen in his way of teaching, in the miracles that he makes and the forgiveness of sins. Jesus pardons the sins of the paralytic and this action in the inside is visible in the healing of the outside.   Saint Beda the Venerable says that, "The healing of this paralytic represents the salvation of the soul that wants to get up to Christ, but is paralyzed by sloth and the pleasures of the flesh". It needs the help of all. Good doctors that awaken the hope for healing and intercession for its salvation".

3. For sin to be pardoned it requires one condition to be met:  To Have Faith. To believe that it is possible to shake sin away and walk. Sin is an immobilizing weight. The world needs men and women of faith - people who believe that it is worthy to believe, to work and to walk.

In a world like ours, secularized and permissive, we cannot stop announcing the forgiveness of sins. To pardon is to receive, to save, to restore, to heal. We need to reconcile ourselves with God. To be happy for the forgiveness of sins. God's forgiveness and our brothers' forgiveness... because they have forgiven us or because we have forgiven them.

Brothers and Sisters: Only God can forgive sins. If you have been paralyzed in your soul for a very long time - have faith and reach out to Christ in confession. He awaits you with his open arms to say to you: "Son, your sins are forgiven". Only those that have had this experience knows that after a good confession... so many other problems fade away as if by magic. It is because through this sacrament the miracle of that day is repeated: "Get up, take your mat and go home."
